Former state school employee Tobey Brown paid in $113K to teachers' pension fund, could collect $1.55M in retirement

Former state school employee Ruth Tobey Brown, who retired in June 2016, saved $112,625 toward a pension over 12 years working for public schools, Teachers' Retirement System of the State of Illinois records show.

Over 30 years of retirement, Tobey Brown would collect as much as $1.55 million, according to a projection by Local Government Information Services (LGIS), which publishes Rock Island Today.

The projection assumes Tobey Brown received $32,516 in the first year of retirement, then 3 percent annual increases thereafter, compounded.

After 4 years of retirement, Tobey Brown will have already received $136,034 in retirement benefits, or more than the sum total of the retiree's contributions to the teachers' pension fund.
