City of Aledo Historic Preservation Commission met April 16.

The Historic Preservation Commission of the City of Aledo met in Open Session in the Council Chambers of the City Hall building on April 16, 2019. Chairman RONN DILLAVOU called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M. The roll was called, whereupon the following commission members answered present:

Commission Members GERROD ANDRESON, KEITH CLARK, RONN DILLAVOU, JIM HOLMES, and VERLA THOMPSON were present. Members SONJIA FELL and MARY RILLIE was excused. Liaison TARAH SIPES was excused.

Also present were CHRIS HAGLOCH, Mayor, CHRIS SULLIVAN, Interim City Administrator / Chief of Police, and JAROD DALE, City Clerk.

Minutes:

Motion made by JIM HOLMES and seconded by VERLA THOMPSON to approve the meeting minutes of 01/15/19. A Unanimous voice vote followed in agreement.

Old Business: Review of Monument Park Stone Repair Quote submitted by Northwest Restoration, Co. in the amount of $8,745.00:

Damaged stone to have conproco historic mortar applied to the base of the statute and a clear water proofing sealer to be applied. MAYOR Hagloch reported a total of $10,000 is budgeted in F/Y 2019 under capital outlay in the Tax Increment Financing (TIF) fund. HPC reported they anticipate Northwest Restoration will be able to straighten up the base area and clean it up too. Also, it is anticipated the “flaking” will be stopped as well.

Motion by VERLA THOMPSON and seconded by KEITH CLARK to move the item to the Aledo City Council for final approval. A Unanimous voice vote followed in agreement.

Other plans for the park area include interpretive boards being purchased and final design completed. Railings can also be addressed and sidewalks to be installed. Benches have been purchased and to be set at a later date. Design for fencing and the bid-out of interpretive boards will be addressed at a future date and HPC to reach out to Tarah Sipes, HPC Liaison to help finalize those plans.

Motion by VERLA THOMPSON and seconded by JIM HOLMES to loan the benches for City purposes in the downtown area until the benches are ready to be installed in Monument Park. A Unanimous voice followed in agreement. Jim Holmes volunteered to put the benches together while manning the e-cycle at the city garage.

Committee Reports: New committee assignments to be assigned at the April meeting.

New Business: MAYOR Hagloch reviewed his mayoral appointments for HPC. It was reported Gerrod Andresen and Ronn Dillavou are up in 2019. MAYOR reported if members would like to stay on for another term they are welcome. Verla Thompsons position to be filled by the Mayor. A recommendation was requested for her spot, with HPC noting to contact Kate Danner.

The Chairman, Vice Chairman, and Secretary to be voted upon at the next meeting. A new chairman to be selected as Ronn Dillavou has served 2 terms as chair.

Next Meeting: Tuesday, May 21st, 2019 at 6:30 o’clock p.m. in the City Council Chambers.

Adjournment:

Motion made by JIM HOLMES and seconded by VERLA THOMPSON to adjourn the Historic Preservation Commission Meeting. Unanimous voice vote followed in agreement. Meeting was adjourned at 7:05 P.M.
