Alwood Community Unit School District 225 Board of Education met April 26.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

The AlWood Board of Education held a special meeting on Friday, April 26, 2019, in the Junior/Senior High School Conference Room, Woodhull. The meeting was called to order at 6:55 P.M. by President Brown with the following in attendance: Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney; Superintendent Shannon Bumann and Junior/Senior High Sschool Principal Ben Rees. Link was absent.

There were no other visitors in attendance.

President Brown read the official results of the April 2nd School Board Election received from the Henry/Mercer/Knox County Clerk's Offices:

Melissa Brown 200 votes (Clover Township)

Kelli Hand 209 votes (Clover Township)

John Barton 216 votes (Oxford Township)

Mary Link 191 votes (Rio Township)

Based on the votes received, Brown, Hand, Barton and Link were all elected to the AlWood Board of Education for a four-year term. Members will serve until April 2023.

Hand moved, Barton seconded to adjourn sine die at 6:56 P.M. Passed 6 – 0 vote. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Brown was appointed as President Pro-Tem and Francis was appointed as Secretary Pro Tem.

President Pro-Tem called the meeting to order at 7:03 P.M. Roll call was taken with Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney in attendance. Link was absent.

Re-elected board members Melissa Brown, Kelli Hand, John Barton, and Mary Link each recited the oath of office.

Barton moved, Kenney seconded to nominate Melissa Brown to serve as Board President. Passed 6 - 0 vote. Nay - none. Link was absent. President Brown assumed the chair.

Barton moved, Kenney seconded to nominate Scott Francis as Vice-President of the board to serve in the absence of the Board President. Passed 6 – 0 vote. Nay - none. Link was absent. Vice-President Francis assumed the chair.

Barton moved, Kenney seconded to nominate Mary Link to serve as Board Secretary. Passed 6 - 0 vote. Nay - none. Link was absent.

Barton moved, Hand seconded to adopt a resolution establishing a two-year term of office for President, Vice-President, and Secretary. Passed 6 – 0 vote. Nay - none. Link was absent.

Brown moved, Althaus seconded to set the 2019 – 2020 regular meeting dates of the board as the 34 Monday night @ 7:00 PM the months of July thru June in the Junior/Senior High School Conference Room, Woodhull. Some dates may be adjusted due to Legal School Holidays or other conflicts. Passed 5 – 1 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, and Hand. Nay – Kenney. Link was absent.

Barton moved, Kenney seconded to adopt all previous Board of Education contracts, policies, procedures, and resolutions until reviewed, rescinded or amended. Passed 6 - 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay - none. Link was absent.

President Brown reconvened to regular session at 7:04 P.M.

Francis moved, Althaus seconded to accept the resignation of junior varsity volleyball coach, Ali Jones, effective immediately. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay – none. Link was absent.

Barton moved, Francis seconded to approve the hiring of Missy Vail-Frakes, as an elementary school counselor/assistant principal, beginning 2019 – 2020 school year, 10.5 month contract, salary $62,000/per year. Passed 6 – 0 roll call vote. Voting aye were Althaus, Barton, Brown, Francis, Hand, and Kenney. Nay - none. Link was absent.

Hand moved, Althaus seconded to adjourn at 7:13 P.M. Passed 6 – 0 vote. Nay – none. Link was absent.
