Carbondale Chamber of Commerce recently issues the following announcement.
Keep Carbondale Beautiful has challenged residents to play a role in this year’s Spring Cleanup. The 30-Day KCB Challenge goes till April 30th. If you can take a walk, you can grab a glove and bag before you go, and keep an eye out for litter. Maybe you’ve been doing that for a while.
Please let KCB know what streets you’ve picked up and an estimate of how much you’ve picked up (in bags or pounds). At the end of the month, they’ll tally up the numbers and announce results. T-shirts will be available to all participants.
Not sure where to go? Volunteers can start with their own street or block, clean a site of their choice, or work on a street identified by KCB: Suggestions are routes 13 and 51; Jackson, Oak, and Wall on the east side; College and Cherry on the west side; and any alley, ditch, or fence-line.
With offices closed to the public, KCB cannot provide bags or gloves, and asks that volunteers take care of all trash and recycling, after they get a photo to post on Facebook or send to KCB at 618-525-5525 or keepcb1326@gmail.com.
Critical to success is financial support from KCB’s major sponsors: Burris Disposal Service, CIMCO, and Southern Recycling Center. In-kind support comes from Silkworm, SIUC, the City of Carbondale, and the Carbondale Park District.
