Longtime Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) was reappointed to the Veterans Advisory Council by House Republican Leader Jim Durkin (R-Burr Ridge).
“Leader Durkin was very gracious to nominate me to continue to represent our caucus on the Veteran’s Advisory Council,” Swanson said in a post to his website on March 10. “Standing strong for our veterans is critically important to me.”
Now serving his third-term in Springfield, Swanson previously spent two decades with the Illinois Army National Guard and did several tours in Iraq before retiring in 2001.
Over his career, Swanson was assigned as deputy director, Iraqi Army Force Generation, where his responsibilities included coordinating and synchronizing recruiting, training, equipping and basing Iraqi Army units with Coalition and Iraqi leadership.
At one point, coming out of retirement to serve active duty, Swanson was later honored with the Bronze Star and Combat Action Badge for all his years of service.
