Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on Sept. 22

Ahead of a scheduled vote in the U.S. House of Representatives on Monday, Sept. 27, the Chamber sent the following letter to Reps. Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Cheri Bustos urging their support for H.R. 3684, the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Passage of this historic legislation would bring needed investment to our region’s roads, bridges, water and energy infrastructure, airports and public transportation. Further, it would revitalize our workforce at a time when our employers need it most. Getting our residents back to work, while helping fix the infrastructure we use each day, will result in more jobs and more economic investment in our region.

Situated on the Mississippi River, the Quad Cities has a robust transportation network that includes four interstates (I-80, I-280, I-74 and I-88), eight bridges across the region, four major freight railroads, and the Quad Cities International Airport. The Quad Cities' central location, with close access to major Midwest markets, offers key business and economic advantages that drive economic development and business attraction to the region. Additional investment in our roads and bridges results in safer and more efficient transportation for our employers, and funding for new projects will help attract investment and talent to our region.

According to White House estimates, Illinois would stand to receive $9.8 billion in federal-aid highway apportioned programs and another $1.4 billion for bridge replacement and repairs over five years under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. In addition, Iowa would stand to receive $3.4 billion in federal-aid highway apportioned programs and another $432 million for bridge replacement and repairs over five years under the new legislation.
