Chamber thanks Illinois DOT for meeting, visit to discuss priorities

34

Quad Cities Chamber of Commerce Inc issued the following announcement on Oct. 5

Following a virtual meeting with regional stakeholders to discuss ongoing transportation projects, Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Secretary Omer Osman visited the Quad Cities last week to survey IDOT projects and to discuss future programming initiatives.

Secretary Osman was able to hear from a variety of local stakeholders regarding current projects such as the new Interstate 74 Bridge and John Deere Road Interchange, repairs to Interstate 280 and plans for the Interstate 80 bridge. The group also discussed how the Quad Cities region fits into IDOT’s statewide plan to rebuild roads and bridges, and partnering on future proposals including electric vehicle charging. The Secretary also reaffirmed the Pritzker Administration’s commitment to bringing passenger rail service to Moline as they continue negotiations with Iowa Interstate Railroad.

The visit highlighted the shared desire between IDOT and the Chamber to encourage the passage of the federal bi-partisan infrastructure bill awaiting a vote in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Chamber has continued its dialogue with the Quad Cities Congressional delegation to emphasize that signing the bill into law will allow for long-term planning to boost our regional workforce; ensure safe, efficient pathways for our businesses; and further connect our region to neighboring economies.
