QC, that’s where a diverse portfolio of green energy allows mega manufacturers, global corporations and small businesses to enjoy the 11th lowest electricity rates in America.
It is where MidAmerican Energy is leading the renewable energy revolution through wind and solar throughout the QC region.
It is where Constellation Energy operates one of the Midwest’s largest clean energy centers on the Illinois QC banks of the Mississippi River, generating zero-carbon nuclear energy at a capacity factor of 95% - a benchmark of reliability to provide full power every second of every day.
It is where niche businesses like Iowa Solar, and engineering powerhouses like IMEG Corp. design, tailor and provide green energy solutions that allow QC companies – new and existing – to realize a return on investment while supporting operations and the health of our planet.
QC, that’s where our six-county bistate region is ranked #2 in both Iowa and Illinois, #5 in the Midwest, and #28 in the U.S. for cost of doing business. And where our abundance of natural resources allows companies to build and operate sustainably and exceed environmental standards. It is where we are building a future for the next generation.
MidAmerican Energy powers QC businesses with renewable energy
MidAmerican Energy’s ability to provide renewable energy, reliable infrastructure and the 11th lowest electric rates in the country are an economic advantage for businesses throughout the bi-state region.
Through MidAmerican’s GreenAdvantage program, which applies to all of its electric customers in Iowa, every customer can claim a verified renewable energy amount, which in 2021, was 88.5%. This helps businesses achieve their environmental and sustainability goals. And MidAmerican is leading the nation in its quest to provide 100% renewable energy on an annual basis to Iowa customers. The company has more than 7,300 megawatts of wind energy and 141 megawatts of solar energy capacity in its renewable energy portfolio, which is growing.
The Wind PRIME project is the next step in the company’s long-term goal to achieve net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The project, proposed earlier this year, would add more than 2,000 megawatts of wind generation and 50 megawatts of solar energy. MidAmerican would be able to provide 100% renewable energy to all of its Iowa customers upon completion in 2025. An Iowa Utilities Board hearing on the project is set for February.
Nurturing our natural resources and environment is a QC mission, one shared by MidAmerican Energy. As of year-end 2020, it had reduced its CO2 emissions by 58% since 2005. Wind PRIME also includes a plan to invest in studying and pursuing emerging lower and noncarbon generation technologies.
Constellation provides clean energy that is 90% carbon-free
Constellation Energy’s Quad Cities Generating Station provides a plentiful and reliable zero-carbon energy solution. Located within our six-county family of communities, this plant is the largest carbon free generator of electricity within 80 miles of the QC. It is a long-term nuclear asset providing affordable, consistent, reliable energy to businesses and homes and feeds the US energy grid.
Constellation’s generation fleet powers more than 20 million homes and is helping to accelerate the nation’s transition to clean energy with more than 32,400 megawatts of capacity and annual output that is 90 percent carbon-free. Already the lowest carbon emitter of any major investor-owned U.S. generator, Constellation has set a goal to eliminate 100 percent of its greenhouse gas emissions by leveraging innovative technology and enhancing its diverse mix of hydro, wind and solar resources, paired with the nation’s largest carbon-free nuclear fleet.
QC, that’s where industry powerhouses and corner craft breweries operate on renewable, sustainable and carbon-free energy. It is where corporate social responsibility becomes action, upheld through a diverse portfolio of low-cost, abundant and reliable energy sources. It is where the status quo is never enough and power suppliers are pushing the edge to achieve more for QC business and the environment, today and tomorrow.
