In a Dec. 7 Facebook post, Illinois State Sen. Neil Anderson shared a new award he had received.

“Honored to be recognized by MABAS-Illinois this morning for my duties in both the fire service and as a State Senator,” he said in the post. “In 2006, I joined the Moline Fire Department as a professional firefighter and in 2015 I became a member of the General Assembly. Blessed to be able to do both and continue to serve.”

Anderson joined the Illinois Senate in 2015, the General Assembly website said. His current committee assignments include Licensed Activities (Minority Spokesperson), Public Safety (Minority Spokesperson), Commerce, Criminal Law, Energy and Public Utilities, Transportation, Redistricting-Northern Illinois, and Criminal Law-Clear Compliance.

In partnership with the Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA), Mutual Aid Box Alarm System (MABAS) has established a statewide, nondiscriminatory mutual aid response system for fire, EMS and specialized incident operational teams; the MABAS website said. Representatives from the Office of the State Fire Marshal, Department of Public Health – EMS Division, and Illinois Fire Chiefs Association are also involved. The system defines a resource response plan to any state location when the governor orders a Declaration of Disaster.

In October, Anderson's professional worlds met when Sen. Dan McConchie came to visit him on the job.

"Thanks for stopping by Leader!" Anderson said on Facebook, sharing McConchie's own Facebook post.
