Representative Dan Swanson has announced a Senior and Veterans Fair to be held on Monday in Macomb. The event, organized in collaboration with State Representative Norine Hammond, Spoon River College Community Outreach, Western Illinois Home Health Care, and McDonough District Hospital, will take place at the Spoon River College Community Center from 9 a.m. to noon. It will feature free health screenings and information from senior service agencies at various levels of government.
In other news, an attempt by Democrats in Springfield to change election laws mid-process was ruled unconstitutional by the Illinois Supreme Court. The law would have altered the ballot access process just as candidates were about to file petitions. A Sangamon County judge initially found it unconstitutional, a decision now upheld by the state's highest court.
Additionally, another incident involving Scott’s Law occurred last weekend when an Illinois State Trooper was injured after a driver crashed into their parked vehicle with emergency lights flashing. This marks the 17th such accident this year involving state police cars and highlights ongoing issues with compliance to Scott’s Law.
Swanson also expressed relief that two Macomb police officers wounded earlier this week have been released from the hospital and are expected to recover.
Further updates include a state disaster declaration following July storms affecting Henry County, calls for stiffer penalties for those harming DCFS workers amid a murder trial, local traditions of Friday Night Lights football games, the rise of a new fast food brand originating in Illinois with 248 locations statewide, and walk-in flu shot clinics offered by Rock Island County Health Department.
