COMMUNICATIONS

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

1. Elect Chairperson (Amy Jackson, Recording Secretary)

Explanation: Pursuant to Chapter I, Section 3 of the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners, the Board is required to elect a Chair at its first meeting in June. The Chair shall serve through the remainder of the municipality’s fiscal year and until a successor is duly elected and qualified.

Staff Recommendation: Staff requests that the Board make the election pursuant to Chapter I, Section 3 of the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.

EXECUTIVE SESSION

Pursuant to Section 2.06, 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1) of the Open Meetings Act, the Board may enter into executive session to discuss the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body.

ACTION FROM EXECUTIVE SESSION

NEW BUSINESS

1. Acceptance of Resignation of Police Officer (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)

Explanation: Probationary Police Officer Devontae Taylor submitted his notice of resignation on May 16, 2025, with an immediate effective date of May 16, 2025, following 8 months of service to the department. His final working day was May 16, 2025.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends acceptance of the resignation of Probationary Police Officer Devontae Taylor, effective May 16, 2025.

2. Acceptance of Resignation of Police Officer (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)

Explanation: Probationary Police Officer Samuel Piehl submitted his notice of resignation on June 12, 2025, with an immediate effective date of June 12, 2025, following 9 months of service to the department. His final working day was June 12, 2025.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends acceptance of the resignation of Probationary Police Officer Samuel Piehl, effective June 12, 2025.

3. Approval of Request to Fill Vacancy (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)

Explanation: Due to the resignation of Devontae Taylor and Samuel Piehl, vacancies have been created within the department.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends approval to fill the vacancies with new Police Officers.

4. Removal of Candidate from the Police Officer Eligibility Register (Darren Gault, Chief of Police) Explanation: Michael Hernandez (the number two candidate) on the Police Officer Eligibility Register has formally requested to be removed from the eligibility list.

Staff recommendation: Staff recommends that the Board accept the voluntary removal of Michael Hernandez from the Police Officer Eligibility Register as requested.

5. Police Officer Probationary Appointments (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)

Explanation: Gerald Ruddell III, the only candidate on the Lateral Police Officer Eligibility Register, has successfully completed all his pre-employment requirements.

Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends the probationary appointment of Police Officer Gerald Ruddell from the Lateral Police Officer Eligibility Register effective June 30, 2025.

OTHER BUSINESS

Members of the public are permitted to speak after standing and stating their names. Public comment will be limited to three (3) minutes per person, per subject. The Commission is not required to respond to public comments.
