Rock Island's parks board has approved a controlled burn at the Sylvan Slough Natural Area.
The City of Rock Island Recreation and Park Board voted Jan. 19 in favor of a controlled burn at the Sylvan Slough Natural Area that will cost the city approximately $16,123.
The board also approved the painting and development of three new pickleball courts at Mel McKay Park, eliminated the college requirement for young adult parks memberships and approved a two-percent raise for all full-time parks employees.
The board was prepared to review the latest lease agreement between the city and Rock Island Baseball, but the document still needed to be reviewed by the city's attorney at the time of the meeting.
Board member David Conroy was absent.
