McGuire applauds effort to remove Mautino from office

Republican candidate for House District 72 Brandi McGuire announced her support of House Joint Resolution (HJR) 158, which calls for Auditor General Frank Mautino's removal from office.

"Transparency, accountability and honesty are the cornerstone of this office," McGuire said. "Auditor General Mautino has repeatedly ignored inquiries by our legislators as to his clearly questionable and unethical use of campaign funds, and is under state and federal investigation. He cannot do his job in full faith for the people of Illinois."

Mautino had served in the Illinois House since 1991 until his appointment as the state's auditor general. After he took that office, irregularities in his campaign fund spending triggered state and federal probes. Legislators questioned him and asked him to step down or take an unpaid leave. Mautino did not respond to the legislators' inquiries.

"Illinois needs an auditor general who will uphold our laws and work to end corrupt practices, not participate in them," McGuire said. "It is right for our legislators to hold him accountable and call for his removal from office, when he clearly cannot do his job. As I travel this district and listen to the people, Democrats, Republicans and Independents all are on the same page -- they want the corruption to stop by the people that serve them. I am running for a reason with respect and responsibility; Mr. Mautino exhibits none of these."
