McCombie honored as volunteer ‘role model’

Rock Island's Tony McCombie, the Republican candidate for the state House seat in District 71, recently accepted the 2016 “Service Above Self” award from the Rotary Club of Savanna for her continuous dedication to the community through volunteerism.

“The award recognizes an individual from the Savanna area for their volunteer work to make a positive change for others and our community,” Rotarian JoEllen McCaskey said.

A 1990 Savanna High School graduate, McCombie wears several hats as the owner of Blue Appraisals LLC, a real estate broker for Mel Foster Realtors, and the mayor of Savanna.

Calling the candidate “a role model for volunteerism,” Rotary President Bob North commended McCombie.

“She believes in Savanna and will forge ahead to get things done,” North said. “Tony is currently running for state representative for our District 71 in hopes of the opportunity not only to serve, but to instigate change that will benefit all the communities in the district.”

McCombie maintains active involvement in many local projects and committees including the Shadfly Festival, Savanna MAPPING, the Chamber of Commerce and the Northern Illinois Mayors Association.

“The rotary is a great organization to get involved with,” McCombie said via her Facebook page. “We are blessed in Savanna to have one of the best. Please get involved in your community!”
