Brandi McGuire, the Republican candidate for state Representative from District 72, recently earned an “AQ” rating from the National Rifle Association’s political action committee based on her approach to Second Amendment rights.
The NRA Political Victory Fund (NRA-PVF) functions as the National Rifle Association's political action committee. NRA-PVF rates candidates — regardless of party affiliation — based on voting records, public statements and responses to the group's questionnaire.
The system awards legislators and candidates a letter grade ranging from A to F, reflecting an individual’s voting record on gun rights. Assigned to a candidate with no previous track record on Second Amendment issues, “AQ” means a pro-gun candidate whose rating is based purely on the candidate’s responses to the NRA-PVF Candidate Questionnaire.
“We appreciate your enthusiasm for the Second Amendment and the attention to firearm-related issues during your candidacy,” Illinois' NRA Liaison Shannon Alford said. “Our members will interpret your ‘AQ’ rating and endorsement as being a solid pro-gun/pro-hunting candidate who is an advocate for the right to keep and bear arms.”
McGuire said she was pleased to be endorsed by the NRA-PVF.
“I believe in maintaining the rights given to us by the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution,” McGuire said. “I am grateful and honored to receive this endorsement by the National Rifle Association.”
NRA-PVF’s grading system follows an alphabetical key, with “A+” denoting a legislator demonstrating both an excellent voting record on all critical NRA issues and robust past efforts to promote and defend the Second Amendment. An “A” is assigned to solidly pro-gun candidates who have supported NRA positions on key votes in elective office as well as candidates with a record of Second Amendment issue support.
Additional ratings include B (generally for pro-gun candidates who may have previously opposed some pro-gun reform or supported some restrictive legislation) and D (for anti-gun candidates typically favoring restrictive gun control legislation and opposing pro-gun reforms).
A lifelong Rock Island County resident, McGuire has been married 21 years; has four children, and directs her family’s driving school business in East Moline.
