Rock Island and Milan School District recently recognized the winner and runners-up of the Thoms Family Above & Beyond Scholarship.
The top scholarship winner, Asrielle Allen, will receive $5,000 for her Girls Leading the Way project.
Allen started the project in 2016, in which she trained a group of high schoolers on team building, leadership and collaboration. Those girls took their learned skills to help cultivate and produce the Girls Leading the Way Youth Leadership Conference, which was held in September.
The program is designed to build girl’s self-esteem and teach important leadership and preparation skills. The creators will prepare to teach a breakout session in February.
Three other finalists also received scholarships for their projects:
***Paul Bilori for his company I-Serve. He received $1,000.
***Elisabeth Hoeper for her company Projecting Successful Fundraising for Project Linus. She received $500.
***Kylie Wymer for her company The Recycled Library. She received $500.
