Three cancer care centers operated by UnityPoint Health have received national accreditation for their breast cancer care services. The Helen G. Nassif Community Cancer Center in Cedar Rapids, UnityPoint Health – John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines, and Trinity Cancer Center in Moline have each been accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), which is administered by the American College of Surgeons. These centers have maintained this accreditation for over ten years and are among a limited number of facilities in Iowa and Illinois to achieve this recognition.
“We are proud to have three of our cancer facilities nationally recognized for providing high-quality, research-based breast cancer care,” said Gregory R. Johnson, MD, SFHM, UnityPoint Health Chief Medical Officer. “This recognition is a testament to the expertise of our care teams and their commitment to providing an exceptional experience to our patients and their families each and every day.”
NAPBC accreditation requires facilities to meet strict standards covering the full range of breast cancer services, including prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship. Centers must complete a detailed evaluation and demonstrate compliance with standards related to leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.
In addition to the accredited centers, UnityPoint Health provides advanced cancer care and the latest treatments at several other locations across Iowa. These include the Norma Schmoker Cancer Center in Fort Dodge, UnityPoint Health – Blank Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders in Des Moines, Wendt Regional Cancer Center in Dubuque, June E. Nylen Cancer Center in Sioux City, and UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital – Community Cancer Center in Waterloo.
