Rapids City ranked 115th in state in lottery ticket sales

The village of Rapids City had the 115th highest lottery ticket net sales statewide per capita for the month of March 2016 -- down 27 spots from its February ranking.

The per capita lottery ticket sales in Rapids City was $36.28 per person.

Based on monthly sales records obtained by the Rock Island Today, Rapids City generated $35,120.50 in net sales from its two lottery retailers in March 2016, compared to $42,034 in March 2015.


The village of Rapids City is in Rock Island County, and has a population of 968, according to 2010 census data. Neighboring municipalities are Port Byron.

Average sales for municipalities in the region in March 2016 was $20,216.89.

Rapids City's top lottery retailer is Git-N-Go #13 located at 1310 2nd Ave, Rapids City, IL 61278.

Git-N-Go #13 generated 53 percent of Rapids City's March 2016 lottery ticket sales and 1 percent of Rock Island County's sales that month, which was $2,122,774.

A close look at sales by city shows that the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita in Rock Island County in 2015 were Hillsdale, Rapids City, Milan, Cordova and Silvis.

Statewide, the top five cities with the highest lottery revenue per capita were Forest View, Burnt Prairie, McCook, Mapleton and Merrionette Park.

The top five cities in the state generated $5,496,719 in net sales -- 1 percent of the state's 2015 net sales amounting to $2,793,271,709.50.
