Two Augustana College athletes won Jack Schwartz awards from the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin, and a number of Vikings were named to the CCIW Academic All-Conference team.

Cross-country runner Mitchell Johnson and golfer Jenna Lawrence were honored with the Jack Schwartz Academic All-Conference award for the fall athletic season. The award is given to one male and one female athlete in the CCIW for fall, winter and spring sports. To be eligible for the award, the athlete must have at least a 3.5 GPA and must have lettered in their sport during that season.

During the cross-country season, Johnson, a senior, was Augustana’s top runner and was the team’s captain. At the CCIW championship, he finished in ninth place, which was his second-straight top-10 finish at the conference meet. During the season, he also recorded two top-10 finishes at meets.

Johnson has been a key member of the cross-country team since his freshman year when he was voted the team’s most valuable freshman. He also has been a key member of the Augustana track and field team and claimed an individual title in the mile race at the Monmouth College Midwest Invitational. During the past two seasons, he was named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic performer.

He is majoring in applied math and business finance and has a 4.0 GPA.

Lawrence was one of the best players of the year on the women’s golf team and finished the fall season with an average of 85.6 and completed 12 rounds of golf. She recorded one top-five finish and several top-10 finishes during the fall season. She came in 10th place at the CCIW Championships with a two-round score of 163.

In the second meet of the year, the Highland Classic, Lawrence recorded her best score of the fall season with 79. At that tournament, the Vikings set a new school record at a two-day tournament with a team score of 659. The team also recorded a new record for single-day lowest score, with a team score of 322.

Lawrence is a senior at Augustana and has played an important role on the Vikings' golf team during all four years of college. Last year, she had an average of 89 per round and recorded seven top-10 finishes and ended the year with a low score of 80. In her sophomore season, she had four top-10 finishes and as a freshman, she recorded three top-10 finishes.

She is the daughter of the women’s golf team head coach, Tom Lawrence. She has a GPA of 3.69 and is majoring in public health and communications.

Vikings who were named to the CCIW Academic All-Conference team include Jenna Dvorak, who is a midfielder for the women’s soccer team. This year, she has recorded one goal and one assist in 16 games. Dvorak has a 4.0 GPA. Another member of the women’s soccer team to make the CCIW Academic All-Conference team is senior Grace Iaquinta. She has a 3.73 GPA and is majoring in English and Graphic Design. This year she has recorded two goals and two assists in 12 games.

In total, 83 Augustana athletes were named to the CCIW Academic All-Conference team for the fall semester.
