As the first person in her family to earn a college degree, state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) said in a recent press release ahead of her 2018 re-election bid that she understands the importance education plays in preparing the next generation of leaders.

McCombie was able to impress that valuable lesson upon the students in three sixth-grade literature classes at Morrison Junior High, according to a release posted on the representative’s website recently.

Joining a teacher during a literacy unit covering “Rules to Live By,” McCombie discussed how her desire to improve government launched her political ambitions, first as mayor of Savanna and later in her current role representing the 71st District in the General Assembly.

McCombie stresses education as one of five planks in her platform, along with fiscal accountability, problem-solving, Second Amendment rights and deregulating agriculture, according to Ballotpedia.com.
