Planet Funk Con will hold the biggest comic-con of its kind in the Quad Cities area Friday, June 22, and Saturday, June 23, at the TaxSlayer Arena.

Convention guests can expect live entertainment as well as a variety of vendors, artists and game tournaments.

Celebrity guests scheduled to appear include World Wrestling Entertainment Hall of Fame member “Hacksaw” Jim Duggan; Max Mittelman, voice actor in “One Punch Man” and “Ultimate Spiderman”; Samantha Newark of “Jem and The Holograms” and the “Transformers” franchise; Brian Colin, creator of the classic “Rampage” arcade games that inspired this year’s blockbuster film; professional cosplayer Mogchell; and Brad Jones, star of the YouTube series “The Cinema Snob."

The force will certainly be with attendees as they mingle with “Vader’s First: 501st Legion” licensed Star Wars impersonators. Guests will also be able to build working Star Wars droids

“We are building the type of convention you would normally have to go to a big city to attend right here in the Quad Cities,” Planet Funk Con Coordinator Steve Ash said.

Along with the entertainment and special guests, attendees will have a wide variety of shopping, with more than 90 vendors, from all over the Midwest, selling merchandise for all ages.

Plant Funk Con will feature many live panels, workshops, an area for both video and board games, and game giveaways.

Fans can also show off their own handiwork in a $500 grand prize cosplay competition.

The convention also features the Hall of Heroes, the convention entrance dedicated to nonprofits and community building organizations.

Convention hours are 1-9 p.m. Friday, and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday.

Tickets are $11 per day or  $16 for a two-day pass. For those hoping to avoid an online service fee, Planet Funk Con will have one- and two-day tickets available at the door for $10 and $15, respectively.

Kids 12-years-old or younger get in free, but must be with an adult.

The TaxSlayer Center is at 1201 River Drive in Moline, Illinois.
