Kewanee Community Unit School District 229 Board met June 4.

Here is the minutes provided by the Board:

Call To Order And Roll Call For Special Board Meeting:

A special meeting of the Board of Kewanee Community Unit School District No. 229 was held in the Kewanee CUSD #229’s Administration Office with President Dan Nolan calling the meeting to order at 5:30pm. Roll call showed the following Members present: Padilla, Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson and Nolan. Member Christiansen was absent. Superintendent Sullens was present for the Closed Session.

Pledge Of Allegiance To The Flag:

President Nolan asked the audience to stand, if able, and join the Board in saying the “Pledge of Allegiance” to the flag.

Member Christiansen entered the meeting at 5:33pm.

Public Comments:

None

Executive Session Of Special Board Meeting :

At 5:33pm Member Padilla seconded a motion made by Member Johnson to enter into Closed Session for 1) the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance or dismissal of specific employees of the District, (C)(2) to consider collective negotiating matters between the public body and its employees or their representatives, or deliberations concerning salary schedules for one or more classes of employees* (C)(11) Litigation, when am action against, affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent. 5ILCS 120/2 Open Meetings. The School Code of Illinois/2018. The roll call vote showed Members Salisbury, Johnson, Padilla, Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen and Nolan all voted aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Member Johnson made a motion to enter into Open Session at 7:51pm and was seconded by Member Steffen. A voice roll showed all Members voting aye.

Action From Closed Session:

Item IV: Consideration and Approval of Hiring 2nd Grade Teachers

Dr. Sullens recommended the Board hire Shyanne Thomas and Mason Hultgren for the Second Grade teaching positions at Irving School for the upcoming school year (F19). Member Johnson made the motion to hire Shyanne Thomas and Mason Hultgren for the positions. Member Christiansen seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Padilla, Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item V: Consideration and Approval of Hiring KHS Math Teacher

Dr. Sullens recommended the Board of Education hire Christa Charlton for the KHS Math teaching position. Member Steffen made a motion to approve. Member Padilla seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson, Padilla and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item VI: Consideration and Approval of Hiring KHS Social Studies Teacher

Dr. Sullens recommended the Board hire Matt Clark for the position of KHS Social Studies Teacher. Member Leckey made a motion to approve. Member Christiansen seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson, Padilla, Christiansen and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item VII: Consideration and Approval of Hiring District Bookkeeper

Superintendent Sullens recommended the Board hire Heather Leckey-Hughes for the position of District Bookkeeper. Member Johnson made a motion to approve. Member Steffen seconded the motion. The roll call showed Member Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson, Padilla, Christiansen and Nolan all voting aye. Member Leckey abstained from the vote. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item VIII: Consideration and Approval of Hiring Summer Library Clerk

Dr. Sullens recommended the Board hire Suzanne Burkhart for the position of Summer Library Clerk at 6 hrs/wk. Member Christiansen made a motion to approve. Member Johnson seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Salisbury, Johnson, Padilla, Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item IX: Consideration and Approval of Hiring Summer Custodial

Dr. Sullens recommended hiring Tanner Arzola at 40 hrs/wk, transfer Nick Sheets from 20 hrs/wk to 40 hrs/wk, and to hire Allison Kubiak for 20 hrs/wk, for the Summer Crew. Member Salisbury made a motion to approve. Member Padilla seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Johnson, Padilla, Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Item X: Consideration and Approval of Bids for Belle Alexander School Addition

A. Concrete – Hein Construction - $130,000.00 Base and a $13,000.00 Alternate

B. Masonry – Otto Baum - $332,955.00

C. Steel Install – Aria Erectors - $31,390.00

D. General Trades – Hein Construction - $247,000.00

E. Roofing and Sheet Metal – Oldeen Roofing - $48,211.00

F. Plumbing – Dooley Bros. - $60,800.00

G. HVAC – PIPCO - $189,200.00

H. Electrical – Oberlander - $170,000.00

I. Site Work Site Utilities – Ratliff Bros. - $53,690.00

J. Steel Supply – Handley - $40,800.00

Dr. Sullens recommended the Board accept the above listed bids for the Belle Alexander School Addition. Member Leckey made a motion to approve. Member Steffen seconded the motion. The roll call vote showed Members Padilla, Christiansen, Leckey, Steffen, Salisbury, Johnson and Nolan all voting aye. There were no nay votes. The motion carried.

Adjournment:

Member Johnson seconded a motion to adjourn the Open Session at 8:04pm. Member Leckey seconded the motion. A voice vote was heard with all present members voting aye. The motion carried.
