Western Illinois University Riverfront Campus recently issued the following announcement.
Western Illinois University-Quad Cities is teaming up with six institutions of higher learning to show the cumulative value and strength that colleges and universities provide the greater QC community.
As part of this initiative, Western Illinois University will join with the Quad City River Bandits and partner schools Augustana College, St. Ambrose University, Black Hawk College, Eastern Iowa Community Colleges, Palmer College of Chiropractic, and Trinity College of Nursing to host a QC Colleges Day at the Ballpark on Sunday, Sept. 2 at Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport.
WIU alumni and students are encouraged to come out in purple and gold for the QC River Bandits' 1:15 p.m. game against the Peoria Chiefs. Tickets will sell for a discount price of $3.50, with a $1.50 convenience fee. Click here and type the letters ‘WIU' in the Special Offer Code box.
Joseph Rives, WIU Vice President for Planning and Quad Cities, noted that the timing of the game coincides with Welcome Week at WIU-QC. "We'd love to encourage all of our new students to attend, and area alumni to come and meet our new students," he said. "We hope to see everyone take advantage of this fun opportunity to not only show pride in our University but also the outstanding higher education institutions in our community."
"We're hoping for a large turnout from all seven schools, with alumni and students sporting their school colors as evidence of the many QC residents who benefit from local colleges and universities and who, in turn, become active and productive citizens in the community," said Sister Joan Lescinki, president of St. Ambrose. "While on some levels, we are competitors, in all of the important ways we are partners in making our world and especially our hometown a better place to live."
QC Colleges Day at the Ballpark is one of several aspects of an initiative being presented in partnership with the Quad City Chamber of Commerce Q2030 campaign. For more information, visit wiu.edu/qc or www.q2030.org/about-q2030.
