Geneseo Community Unit School District 228 students suspended 53 times in a single school year

Geneseo Community Unit School District 228 reported 53 suspensions for 2016-17, according to the latest student discipline report by the Illinois State Board of Education.

According to the report, the district expelled or suspended 53 students during the year. That equates to 2 percent of the 2,637 students enrolled.

The district reported that most in-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 21 incidents. There were two incidents of tobacco. For 23 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.

Of the 29 out-of-school suspensions, including 17 elementary or middle schoolers and 12 high schoolers.

The district reported that most out-of-school suspensions were given for unspecified reasons. The category includes 19 incidents. There were six incidents of alcohol. For 18 incidents, students were suspended for a day or less.
