Approaching the November finish line, District 71 state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) appeared at a Quad City colleges campaign kickoff and in a radio segment as she fights for re-election.
On WKEI AM 1450, McCombie blamed rising calls for term limits on the longevity of House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago). Gov. Bruce Rauner launched “The People’s Pledge” in mid-July to force a turnover in House leadership.
On social media, McCombie celebrated a billboard campaign by Quad City colleges and universities promoting the value of college degrees. She attended the campaign’s official kickoff Aug. 30.

“A pleasure to be present for this collaborative effort being made by our Quad City colleges,” she posted on Facebook. “Go Leathernecks,” she added, referencing the Western Illinois University team.
McCombie is the first person in her family to earn a college degree, leading her to promote education during her campaign. The Illinois Education Association recently endorsed her re-election bid.
“As a member of the Elementary and Secondary Education Committee, I am especially honored to serve the interest of public education in Illinois!” she stated in a Sept. 5 Facebook post.
McCombie, the former mayor of Savanna, will face Democrat Joan Padilla in the General Election on Nov. 6.
The 71st District comprises parts or all of Carroll, Henry, Rock Island and Whiteside counties, as well as the cities of Colona, East Moline, Fulton, Moline, Morrison, Prophetstown, Rock Falls, Savanna, Silvis and Sterling.
