Incumbent state Rep. Tony McCombie (R-Savanna) celebrated support from a number of mayors in her home district in a recent social media post.

“We have worked together, always committed to bipartisan cooperation, to make the IL-71st a better place to live, work, grow and raise a family,” McCombie said in a Sept. 27 post on her Facebook page. “I am looking forward to continued collaboration as we keep moving our region forward. Thank you for your continued support!”

McCombie is offering paid political internships to candidates between the ages of 16 and 26 who are willing to commit to 100 hours of service and have their own transportation.

“Interns will have the opportunity to connect with civic leaders and evoke positive change with the 71st District of Illinois,” she said in an ad on her Facebook page.

As the first person in her family to earn a college degree, McCombie has been visible in her support of education, recently attending a kickoff ceremony for an awareness campaign for Quad City colleges and universities.

McCombie, the former mayor of Savanna, will face Democrat Joan Padilla in the general election on Nov. 6.

The 71st District comprises parts or all of Carroll, Henry, Rock Island and Whiteside counties, as well as the cities of Colona, East Moline, Fulton, Moline, Morrison, Prophetstown, Rock Falls, Savanna, Silvis and Sterling.
