Quad Cities Chamber recently issued the following announcement.
Many area manufacturers helped give students insight into the reality of advanced manufacturing through a variety of Manufacturing Day events, including one held Oct. 9 by the Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois Advanced Manufacturing Sector Board at the John T. Blong Technology Center at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges in Davenport. The event hosted 130 eighth-grade students from across the region as a means to improve the perception of the manufacturing industry and increase awareness of potential manufacturing career opportunities to students.
Students had the opportunity to experience the manufacturing industry through interactive booths hosted by local manufacturers and educational institutions. These interactions consisted of technical simulations, videos, virtual reality, demonstrations of manufacturing processes, careers, and much more!
Members of the Quad Cities Chamber’s Economic Development and Quad Cities Manufacturing Innovation Hub teams provided support in advance as well as at the event. Area companies participating included M.A. Ford, Sterilite, SSAB, HNI, RILCO, Western Illinois University, Quad-City Manufacturing Lab, Rock Island Arsenal Joint Manufacturing Technology Center, Black Cat Wear Parts, John Deere, and Lincoln Electric.
The Eastern Iowa/Western Illinois Sector Boards are involved in long-term efforts that integrate workforce and economic development strategies. Sector boards focus attention on the needs of multiple employers in a specific industry, serve multiple customers (employers, workers, educational institutions, and agencies), build in-depth knowledge of the industry, and develop solutions to industry issues, changes, and concerns. They also promote community change that results in positive outcomes for both business, industry, and the workforce.
