The Augustana men’s basketball team has been tabbed College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) 2018-19 conference favorites.
According to the school’s website, Coach Grey Giovanine and his team amassed 63 points in voting among league coaches, including seven first-place votes. The Vikings have won four straight conference titles and a fifth would mark the first time a team has reached such heights in the 72-year history of the league.
Entering his 20th year at Augustana, Giovanine has amassed a 389-138 career record and now easily rates as the school’s all-time winningest coach. Under his direction, the Vikings have reached at least the elite eight in each of the last four seasons.
In 2017-18, the Vikings finished 25-6, reaching the Division III quarterfinals. The team’s 15 NCAA Tournament wins over the last four seasons are the most by any program at any level of NCAA competition over that span of time.
