A Henry County Republican Party organization offered blessings and memories on the passing of former U.S. President George H.W. Bush.
"God Bless the family of President George H.W. Bush," Henry County Republican Central Committee posted on its Facebook page Saturday. "He spoke at the Fall Dinner of the Henry County Republicans in 1979, and in 1980 he attended a rally at the Baum’s Lake Fanny. Wonderful personal and political memories."
Bush, the nation's 41st president, died Friday at age 94. He was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital last spring following an infection that spread to his blood, according to an Associated Press report that cited a Bush family spokesman statement.
Bush was president from 1989 to 1994; he was vice president under President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989. A White House online biography described his presidency as "a dedication to traditional American values" that urged the county to be a "a kinder and gentler nation" and a "a force for good."
Bush was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush, who died in April at age 92.
