Upcoming MVC women's basketball tourney important to region's sports tourism

Mvc6

An automatic NCAA invitation will be on the line in Moline in March when the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women’s Basketball Tournament kicks off at the TaxSlayer Center.

“The MVC Women’s Basketball Tournament is incredibly important to our region as we shape the destination’s brand and economic development efforts through sports tourism,” Dave Herrell, president and CEO of Visit Quad Cities, said in a statement. “We have a shared goal with the MVC of bringing a lot of energy to the TaxSlayer Center, and supporting the tournament through ticket sales will help achieve this objective. This is our community’s unique opportunity to host MVC student-athletes, administrators, and the member institution’s basketball fans for several days while showcasing the Quad Cities story to the country.”

Founded in 1907,  the MVC is the country’s second-oldest NCAA Division I conference. Every school in the conference is eligible to compete with winners advancing to the next round. The 10-team conference includes Bradley, Drake, Evansville, Illinois State, Indiana State, Loyola, Missouri State, Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois and Valparaiso.

Tickets for the three-day Quad Cities based tournament (March 14 to 17) go on sale Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. Central Time and are available at the TaxSlayer Center box office or online at www.ticketmaster.com.

Tickets are $65 for reserved all-session seating and at $20 and $10 for reserved seat per session showings. If purchased before Jan 21, reserved all-session tickets are $45 and those interested in group rates of 10 or more should contact Lindsey Lobur of TaxSlayer Center Group Sales at 309-277-1356.
