Illinois' 72nd State House District issued the following announcement on Feb. 20.
State Rep. Mike Halpin, D-Rock Island, issued the following statement Wednesday following Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s first budget address:
“After four years of absolute destruction and economic uncertainty under Governor Rauner, we now have an opportunity to negotiate a budget plan that protects access to lifesaving services, invests in much-needed infrastructure improvements and puts us on a path to a stronger economic future for Illinois.
“I have said since I took office that I am committed to working in a bipartisan manner to address the challenges we face. The budget negotiations that lie ahead of us will not be easy, and it will take time and tough decisions to change course from the damage incurred over the past four years.
“I am ready to get to work on a responsible spending plan that meets the needs of middle-class families—one that fully funds our schools and grows our economy. The future of our state depends on how we move forward from here.”
