Leathernecks Come Through for Giving Tuesday 2022
Western Illinois University's Leatherneck spirit is alive and well.
The 2022 #GivingTuesday, a worldwide fundraising movement that's held the first Tuesday after Thanksgiving, brought more than $36,000, from nearly 250 donors, to WIU programs and special projects that will benefit students, faculty, staff and the University as a whole, exceeding the original goal of $25,000 by 45 percent.
According to Tim Hallinan, director of Annual Giving, this year's Giving Tuesday event, which was part of "For the W," WIU's current $100 million-plus fundraising campaign, is the University's most successful Giving Tuesday event to date. The "For the W" campaign, and funds raised through such events as Giving Tuesday, are dedicated to enhancing the student experience, diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives, technology upgrades, scholarships, faculty support and other campus initiatives.
"Leathernecks smashed expectations once again on Giving Tuesday. Over $36,000 is being put right to work in expanding opportunities for students both present and future," said Mac Price, assistant director of Annual Giving. "We had a lot of fun watching the contributions roll in, and we hope the Leatherneck Nation joins us in celebrating their success. Giving Tuesday was a great day for WIU, and thanks to our faculty, staff, alumni, students, parents and friends from around the world, we have many more great days ahead."
