Board of Fire and Police Commission Special Meeting Minutes January 24, 2024
COMMUNICATIONS
1. Firefighter/paramedic (2/21-2/23) and Police Lieutenant (2/23) interview dates (Leah Miller, Director of Human Resources)
2. Pre-employment testing (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)
NEW BUSINESS
1. Full-time Appointment of Police Officer (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)
Explanation: Omar Morales-Alvarado will complete his probationary period as a Police Officer effective March 4, 2024.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends the full-time appointment of Police Officer Omar Morales-Alvarado effective March 4, 2024; pending no concerns develop between today’s date and March 4, 2024.
2. Probationary Period Extension (Steve Regenwether, Fire Chief)
Explanation: Firefighter Chase Bollman has not completed his paramedic training to receive his paramedic license from the State of Illinois and has not been certified by the Project Medical Director.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends a probationary period extension for Firefighter Chase Bollman pursuant to Chapter VI, Section 13 of the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners. The probationary end date will be determined by the completion of his paramedic training to receive his paramedic license from the State of Illinois and his certification by the Project Medical Director.
3. Executive Session Minutes and Recordings (Teri Ray, Administrative Assistant)
Explanation: The City Corporate Council has reviewed closed Executive Session Minutes and made recommendations.
Staff Recommendation: Staff recommends acceptance of the City Corporate Council’s recommendations.
4. Amendments to the Rules and Regulations of the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners (Darren Gault, Chief of Police)
Explanation: The Rules and Regulations were last updated in 2022. Staff is proposing the Board consider continuous testing to allow us to accept applications on an open basis and test those applicants more frequently such as monthly. Additionally, staff is proposing having a minimum oral interview score for promotional examinations, similar to that of the original application process.
