City of Moline Youth Commission met April 18.

Here are the minutes provided by the commission:

1. Meeting Called to Order

The meeting began at 2:01 p.m.

2. Roll Call of Members

Commissioners Present: Krisann Bergo, Emily Cummings, Jan Erikson-Vroman, Liz Finch, Kate Jennings, Joseph Thawn

Commissioners Absent: None.

Staff: Kara Larson, Police Officer

Jan LaRoche, Adult/Young Adult Services Coordinator- Library

Stacy Laake, Special Events/Marketing Specialist- Parks and Rec Kristy Vermeulen, Administrative Coordinator- Library

3. Approval of Minutes

Commissioner Bergo, seconded by Commissioner Cummings, made a motion to approve the March 21, 2024 meeting minutes.

4. Presentation by Kaitlyn Yakish (Kindergarten Classrooms at Lincoln Irving) Yakish presented on behalf of her kindergarten classroom at Lincoln Irving. They are seeking funds to provide graduation t-shirts for the class.

A $900 donation is requested for class graduation t-shirts.

5. Presentation by Amanda Pauley (Moline High School Contemporaries Dance Team)

The Moline High School Contemporaries Dance Team preforms at half-time of varsity football and basketball games. They are not considered a sport so do not receive funding from the athletic department or boosters club.

A $1,000 donation is requested to lower cost of a UDA camp this summer.

6. Presentation by Ismael Ojeda (10u Soccer Club)

The 10 and under soccer club consists of several Moline students who are traveling to various locations to play soccer tournaments.

A $1,000 donation is requested to cover tournament fees.

7. Presentation by Beth Parry and Student Book Club Member/Vice President (Book Ends @ MHS)

The Moline High School Book Ends Club is a book club at Moline High School for any student. They provide a safe environment to discuss and listen about various books chosen by the group themselves.

A $500 donation is requested for food and snacks at the club.

8. Presentation from Megan Radosevich (Run and Read Club at Bicentennial Elementary)

The Run and Read Club is an after school program that runs for 6 weeks before the annual Fun Run in May. The hope is to have it in the fall and spring next year. The group learns about running, healthy habits, and goal setting. They stretch, run, and cool down with a snack and book.

A $200 donation is requested for healthy snacks and an additional $500-$1,000 donation is requested for t-shirts and shoes.

9. Donations

Commissioner Finch, seconded by Commissioner Jennings, made a motion to donate $250 to the Book Ends at Moline High School. The motion carried unanimously.

10.Possible Youth Commission Event

The possible event was tabled for now, further discussion needed.

11.Miscellaneous Business

None.

Commissioner Finch, seconded by Commissioner Jennings, made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 3:08 p.m.
