This week marks Farm Safety Week, a time dedicated to emphasizing the importance of safety on farms in Illinois, which involves one of the most crucial yet hazardous occupations in the state.

According to statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor, approximately 500 farmers lose their lives annually due to farm accidents. Common hazards include tractor rollovers and grain bin cave-ins. Additionally, during this season, slow-moving farm equipment is frequently seen on roadways. Motorists are urged to be vigilant and give these operators ample space and patience to ensure everyone's safety.

Farm Safety Week covers various aspects of farm safety with a different focus each day. Monday highlighted equipment and rural roadway safety; Tuesday addressed health and wellness; Wednesday focused on generations of farming; Thursday discussed confined spaces; and Friday's topic is reporting agricultural injuries.
