The Illinois trout season begins this Saturday, October 5, and will continue until Friday, October 18. During this period, fishing is limited to catch-and-release at selected sites. The regular trout season will start at 5 a.m. on Saturday, October 19, allowing anglers to keep up to five trout per day.

To participate in either season, anglers need a fishing license from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources along with a $6.50 trout stamp. Licenses can be applied for online.

The early catch-and-release season is available at 60 lakes across the state. Some of the local sites include Prospect Park in Moline, Citizens Lake in Monmouth, and Argyle Lake State Park in McDonough County.
