State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) will collaborate with Carl Sandburg College and F&M Bank to host a seminar focused on scam prevention. The event is scheduled for Monday, October 21, at the Galesburg Public Library's community room from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Swanson emphasized the importance of this seminar, stating, “Financial scams have targeted many of us in recent years. It seems as if everyone knows somebody who has been contacted by a scammer trying to fraudulently take their money or gain access to their personal information. We hope to help local residents learn how to spot the signs of a scam and avoid them before it is too late.”

The seminar will feature speakers such as local sheriffs and an outreach specialist from the Illinois Attorney General’s office. They will discuss common scams and identity theft, offering advice on actions to take if targeted by scammers, including reporting fraud and implementing fraud alerts and security freezes on accounts.

“This will be an important informational event, and everyone is welcome,” Swanson said. “I hope you can stop by.”
