Representative Dan Swanson will be hosting a scam prevention seminar in collaboration with Carl Sandburg College and F&M Bank. The event is scheduled for Monday afternoon at the Galesburg Library Community Room. Swanson emphasized the prevalence of financial scams, urging the public to stay vigilant against fraudulent activities.

The federal corruption trial of former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan is set to commence next week with opening statements. Madigan, who served as House Speaker until 2021, faces racketeering charges alongside lobbyist Mike McClain. Prosecutors allege that Madigan traded official acts for personal gain.

Illinois voters will encounter three non-binding advisory questions on their ballots this fall, addressing issues such as election interference penalties, additional taxation for property tax relief, and coverage for assisted reproductive treatments. These questions aim to gauge public opinion without directly leading to legislative changes.

In other news, Representative Swanson presented a $500 check from the Illinois Legislative Sportsmen’s Caucus to the Knoxville High School Trap Shooting Team. The funds were used to purchase equipment for upcoming competitions. The bipartisan caucus advocates for policies supporting outdoor recreational activities in Illinois.

Additional updates include new troopers joining the Illinois State Police, proposed voter integrity legislation by Leader McCombie, and discounts offered to veterans through the 'Honor Rewards' program.
