Legislation aimed at providing firefighters with higher educational credit for their training has successfully passed a House committee. The House Higher Education Committee approved House Bill 1149 unanimously, with a 12-0 vote. The bill now awaits consideration by the full House of Representatives.

The proposed legislation extends existing state law that allows emergency medical technicians to receive college credit for their training, applying similar provisions to firefighters.

"This is my second bill to pass out of a House committee this spring," the sponsor noted, referencing another piece of legislation, House Bill 46, which addresses the state's shortage of daycare workers.
