On Friday, a ceremony was held at Western Illinois University to commission six cadets from the 2025 class as second lieutenants. The remaining six cadets are scheduled for commissioning at a later date. "Congratulations and thank you to the newly commissioned Second Lieutenants as they begin their military careers," was expressed during the event.
Over the weekend, another significant event took place—the 21st Annual Nurses Week Convocation and Remembrance Service. This service was held at the Mother Bickerdyke Memorial Statue on the Knox County Courthouse lawn. Attendees were instructed to place a white rose in memory of a nurse at the foot of the statue. After placing their roses, participants announced who their rose honored.
One attendee placed a rose in honor of Ruth Dahlberg Taylor, a 1942 graduate of Moline Lutheran nursing school. Taylor served as a nurse in the US Army during World War II and later worked as a school nurse at Cambridge schools. She also contributed her services to many Lutheran youth summer camps, acted as a church nurse, and was involved with Andover American Legion Post 465.
