East Moline continues to try to reconcile the released flood plain maps.

East Moline Mayor John Thodos recently updated the East Moline City Council on the progress of discussions to reconcile inaccurate flood plain maps.

Thodos said the flood plain maps redesigned by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) called for flooding in areas where flooding did not occur and allowed development in other areas where significant flooding has been documented. Thodos said he has worked with local and state officials, including two governors, to try to seek a remedy to the issue. The mayor said he had recently received a letter from IDNR and pledged to keep the council updated.

Elsewhere on the agenda, Thodos read a proclamation anointing January as National Mentoring Month and encouraged local residents to support Big Brothers and Big Sisters.

The council also held a closed session to discuss the city's search for an administrator, which resulted in a 6-1 vote in favor of commissioning the hiring services of Voorhees and Associates for up to $20,000.
