State Senator Neil Anderson (R-Andalusia) has expressed strong opposition to the recently passed “Energy Omnibus Bill,” criticizing its impact on downstate Illinois residents and its approach to energy policy.

“Once again, downstate Illinois families are being ignored. This legislation gives unchecked power to unelected bureaucrats, eliminates energy cap protections, and forces taxpayers to fund unproven experimental battery projects near people’s homes. While lifting the ban on new nuclear reactors is a positive step, it is overshadowed by the bill’s broader agenda, which prioritizes radical green policies over affordable, safe, and reliable energy," Anderson said in a statement.

Anderson further stated: “Illinoisans will continue to face rising energy prices until we take two critical steps: stop subsidizing inefficient wind and solar projects, and reopen coal and natural gas power plants while building more nuclear facilities. Our families deserve leaders who put affordability, safety, and common sense before ideology.”

Anderson was elected as a Republican to represent Illinois' 47th Senate District in 2023, succeeding former state senator Jil Tracy.
