The Moline City Council will meet on Tuesday to vote on approving a lease agreement with Verizon that would allow the company to erect telecommunications equipment on the water tower on 15th Avenue.
The first term of the lease would run for five years, at a cost of $14,400 to Verizon per year for the first year, with a 3 percent increase each of the following years. After the first five years, Verizon will have the option to renew the agreement for up to three additional five-year cycles structured the same way.
The council also will consider authorizing several capital projects, including $107,000 for rebuilding a backstop and dugout at Green Valley Sports Complex and a $147,820 with Walter D. Laud Inc. for inlet and catch basin replacement. The council also will vote on a resolution extending the city's support for Gorman & Company's redevelopment contract for the former Garfield Elementary School, currently under review by the Illinois Housing Development Authority.
In response to repeated requests to collaborate on development projects from Todd Raufeisen, the city also will vote on passing an official four-year ban on carrying out development contracts with Raufeisen. Raufeisen, through his company RDC Case Creek Trails, partnered with the city and the Quad City International Airport in 2010 for a development project that was never completed, souring relations with the city.
The council also will have the opportunity to approve the development of a new paintball course at Green Valley Park and the operation of the food truck Roy's All Fed Up along Ben Butterworth Parkway for the 2016 season.
