The WIU student-run newspaper recently won five ICPA awards.
The Western Courier, Western Illinois University's (WIU) student-run newspaper, took home five awards from the Illinois College Press Association's (ICPA) annual convention Feb. 19 and 20 in Chicago.
Senior communications major Karissa Kouchis took third place in the Feature Photo category; former editor-in-chief Nicholas Stewart took second place in Best Photo Essay and first place in Headline Writing; and Jessie Matias earned an honorable mention in the "Shoot Chicago" Photo Contest.
The entire Courier staff also earned third place in General Excellence for the first time since the 2006-07 school year.
The awards were judged and awarded by a panel of professional Illinois journalists.
