Augustana College will host an "Arab Spring: Five Years Later" panel discussion.
Augustana College will concentrate on the repercussion of the Arab Spring protests of 2011 in an upcoming panel discussion, called "Arab Spring: Five Years Later."
The discussion will feature a panel of notable academics, namely Juan Cole of the University of Michigan Department of History and Maytha Alhassen, a provost Ph.D. fellow in American Studies and Ethnicity at the University of Southern California.
Cole is a columnist for the Nation and Truthdig and writes commentary articles for The Washington Post, The Guardian and the San Francisco Review, among others. Cole also makes appearances routinely on the NewsHour, Nightline, Al Jazeera and NPR, in addition to authoring "The New Arabs: How the Millennial Generation is Changing the Middle East."
Alhassen has authored many works including, academic journals and print publications as well as her essay, “I Speak for Myself,” which was a part of a book of essays by American Muslim women. In addition, she has appeared on CNN and co-edited "Demanding Dignity: Young Voices from the Front Lines of the Arab Revolutions."
"Arab Spring: Five Years Later" will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 31, in Room 102 of the Hanson Hall of Science.
