Sewer utility work is responsible for the closure of Sixth Avenue and 24th Street in Rock Island.
Road work will resume in the City of Rock Island beginning Monday at the intersection of Sixth Avenue and 24th Street.
The project is to install a new large diameter relief sewer and some water mains. During the construction, crews will need to close 24th Street to thru traffic from Fifth Avenue to Seventh Avenue. Non-construction traffic will be rerouted to 20th Street.
Local businesses can still be accessed by the public via 24th Street.
The utility project is expected to be complete by May 6, given the weather needed to finish the construction.
Drivers should expect delays while traveling in the area and are encouraged to take a different route, if possible. Signs posted near the construction area will point travelers in the correct direction for detour routes.
The City of Rock Island apologizes for the inconvenience caused during the construction work and thanks drivers for their patience and consideration for other drivers and road crews.
