The Quad Cities are getting ready to host the 2017 junior and amateur disc golf championships.
As many as 1,200 disc golf players will descend upon the Quad Cities next summer for the 2017 Amateur and Junior Disc Golf World Championships.
Chase Roberts, of Iron Lion Disc Golf Supply and Quad Cities Convention & Visitors Bureau (QCCVB), will host the event, arranging more than seven courses throughout the Quad Cities.
“We are very excited to have PDGA back in the Quad Cities and showcase everything that we have to offer,” QCCVB Director of Sales Dan Gleason said. “The QCCVB and Iron Lion have been working hard together to get the PDGA to host a World’s event here. We had to put our best foot forward and outshine other communities that are larger than ours. We did that by our community support and the caliber of our courses. This was truly a community effort and I could not be happier for the Quad Cities to have gotten this bid.”
Next year's event will mark the second time in recent years the Quad Cities have hosted a disc golf championship. The Women's Disc Golf Championships came to the area in 2009.
Event organizers are hoping the 2017 contest will generate close to $800,000.
