The Rock Island County Republican Party recently shared an explanation of what it means to be a Republican.
The organization provides a wide range of activities and events to support local Republican candidates and voters.
"We believe that America is a great country," according to a recent statement. "We believe that American values are worth fighting for and defending. We believe that what makes America unique is that from the day they are born American children are taught that they can become anything, that anything is possible in America."
The Republican Party is against big government and the associated taxes that are necessary to run a large bureaucracy. Instead, it believes in a small, business-friendly government that encourages entrepreneurs and businesses to take risks to achieve their highest potential. Successful businesses equal jobs, which benefit society as a whole. It believes in the can-do attitude that exemplifies America.
While the party believes in small government, it also believes in family, work, freedom of worship and human potential. The party doesn't support expanding the social safety net, as it feels that the net encourages dependency rather than self-sufficiency.
The Republican Party believes in people, not government, to keep America great.
