Rock Island High School alumnus Travon Aldridge, a sophomore at Augustana College, has been named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Men's Track and Field Academic All-District Team in District Seven.
Aldridge, a sophomore, won the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) title in the triple jump at this year's outdoor championships in May in Rock Island. He also was on the winning 4x100-meters relay team and took second in the open 100 dash.
His other accomplishments this year included winning the triple jump at the Converse Invitational indoors in January in Whitewater, Wisconsin, and the Viking Olympics outdoors in the triple jump in April in Rock Island, as well as placing fourth in the event during April’s Meet of Champions in Rock Island. Aldridge took second in the CCIW triple jump during the 2016 indoor season after winning the event in 2015 as a freshman.
His best leap this spring was 46 feet.
Aldridge, who was also a starting cornerback for Augustana’s football team last season, has a 3.62 grade-point average with a major in business management. His volunteer efforts include reading in the classroom to local school children at Jefferson Elementary in Davenport, Iowa, and participating in Santa's Workshop at Longfellow Elementary in Rock Island.
District Seven includes the states of Illinois, Indiana and Ohio. Aldridge now advances to the national ballot where the CoSIDA will choose the Academic All-America team.
Aldridge is the son of Larry Olivier and Darnett Aldridge, both of Rock Island.
