Western Illinois University named Best Midwestern Regional University

Meeting 07

College Choice recently recognized Western Illinois University as a 2016 Best Midwestern Regional University.

The publication, which is dedicated to helping students and families find the right college, also ranked Western’s School of Nursing as a 2016 Best Online RN to BSN Degree Program.

Western was one of three Illinois universities to earn the first distinction and one of two to earn the second. The university is in the top 50 in the Midwest in each category.

College Choice awards these distinctions based on factors mentioned by actual college freshman. The students mentioned academic reputation, financial aid offerings, and overall cost and success of graduates in the post-college job market as reason to choose a university. Each of these factors is then weighted equally in a ranking taken from researched data.

Western has historically succeeded among publications that measure universities. It was named a “Best Midwestern University” by U.S. News and World Report for 11 straight years and a “Best Midwestern College” by the Princeton Review for 12 consecutive years.

The RN-BSN program moved to an online format in fall 2014 to accommodate working nurses who wanted to further their education. In 2015, it was named to the list of top 50 most affordable colleges for online RN-BSN programs.
